As the Senior Engineer, Materials, you will develop company specifications and provide project and field support related to polyethylene and steel piping, welding, and non-destructive examination, ensuring compliance to applicable codes and standards.

What You Will Do

Develop and update company specifications and practices related to steel and Polyethylene pipes and components, welding, Heat and Electrofusion joining, Purchase specifications to ensure compliance with current industry standards and regulations.

Develop and maintain company welding, heat and electrofusion procedures to ensure compliance with CSA Z662, ASME IX, ASTM F2620, ASTM F1290, CSA B137.4 and best industry practices.

Review and approve third-party welding and polyethylene fusion procedures for compliance with CSA Z662, ASME IX, ASTM F2620, ASTM F1290 and CSA B137.4.

Support field welding and polyethylene fusion operations through procedure selection and troubleshooting.

Support procurement processes by reviewing material test reports and technical exception requests from vendors to ensure compliance with codes, standards and best industry practices.

Provide materials engineering and non-destructive examination support to pipeline and equipment integrity programs, capital and projects of all sizes, and company initiatives in business development and operational excellence.

Support the assessment of new materials and products of interest to the company.

Coordinate failure analysis testing when needed.

Who You Are

You have the following education & experience:

Accredited University degree in Mechanical, Chemical or Materials Engineering, or equivalent with 6 or more years materials experience in related industry.

Working knowledge of Steel and Polyethylene materials, welding engineering, NDE, and quality assurance.

P.Eng designation in Ontario.

Demonstrated strong technical, problem solving, project management and decision-making skills.

Strong communication skills (verbal and written).

Outstanding interpersonal and teamwork skills. An ability to build and maintain a good working relationship with the client groups is critical to this role.

Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint and working knowledge of MS project, GIS and Maximo.

Valid Ontario Class G driver’s license.

Following are the preferred skills:

Knowledge of gas pipeline systems and application of steel and polyethylene materials and joining practices.

Experience maintaining engineering approved materials list.

Experience conducting root cause analysis, forensic metallurgical failure analysis, and material testing.

Experience providing materials, polyethylene fusion joining and welding support to projects.

Experience providing operations support in oil and gas production, pipelines, or refining.

Familiar with the fundamentals of Quality Assurance from both a procurement and construction standpoint.
