Under supervision and direction of the RN, RPN, LPN (Licensed Healthcare Professional), the Health Care Aide (HCA) provides direct care to clients in their homes in both the community and lodge setting. Responsibilities: – Provides personal care and assists with activities of daily living as outlined in the care plan, including but not limited to personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, grooming, transferring and mobilizing. – Provides emotional support by being a good listener, being supportive, being friendly and sincere, and interacting in a positive and optimistic manner. – Provides respite care to relieve family caregivers including but not limited to companionship, recreational activities, and supervision. – Performs health care duties as authorized on the client’s plan of care including simple dressings, medication assistance, catheter care, ostomy care, and exercises for range of movement and strengthening. – Provides Housekeeping services that are essential to the Client’s Activities of Daily Living in their immediate living space to increase the prospects for maintaining the client in their Home/Community.
As a Health Care Aide (HCA) – Nursing Attendant, you are responsible for providing personal assistance, supporting activities of daily living and providing comfort and support services to patients (clients, residents) who require short-term assistance or ongoing support. You will work closely with patients, families, and caregivers spanning the continuum of care in home, community or health care facilities. You will play a key role in providing safe, quality patient and family centered care while reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

For more information on the Alberta Health Care Aide Directory, please visit: www.albertahcadirectory.com. – In addition, you must meet one of the following Alberta Health Services (AHS) Health Care Aide (HCA) competency requirement and provide evidence at time of hire: a) Certified – certified as a Health Care Aide through a Government of Alberta licensed post-secondary institution using the Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or b) Substantially Equivalent – an educational background deemed equivalent as compared to the approved Provincial Health Care Aide Curriculum; or c) Deemed Competent – assessed as competent by an Alberta regulated nurse, using the Provincial Competency Assessment Profile Tool.
Additional Required Qualifications:
Must be a graduate from an educational program using the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides or have met the criteria outlined in the Substantially Equivalent Competency Guidelines, or within 155 hours of being employed have commenced a training program based on the Provincial Curriculum for Health Care Aides (HCAs). HCAs must complete the training program within 1 (one) year of being employed. Basic Cardiac Life Support – Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) required. Ability to work as a member of a team and to request and accept direction as required. Effective communication in verbal and written English is required. Effective interpersonal and communication skills with patients/clients, families, visitors and team members. Medication Assistance Certificate or prior experience in Medication Assistance is preferred. Previous experience in the health care field and work with older or chronically ill individuals is preferred. Well-developed time management skills. May be required to work a variety of shifts and shift patterns in Airdrie & Didsbury a Valid driver`s license and vehicle for travel is required. Note: This position requires a vehicle for business use. Possession of a valid driver’s license and access to a motor vehicle in good repair for work related travel is required.
