Communications Coordinator – Regional District of Okanagan Job in Penticton, BC at Similkameen

Reporting to the Manager of Legislative Services, the regular, full-time Communications Coordinator will be responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating strategic communication plans, programs and policies ensuring that they are aligned with the organization’s strategic priorities, action plans and key success drivers. This position coordinates and oversees the development, production and editing of video, audio and all other forms of media to enhance the corporate communication and emergency operations centre initiatives.
Completion of a post-secondary degree in a public relations or journalism program or related field.
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in a communications position, preferably in a Regional District and/or municipal environment. A combination of education and experience may be considered.
Ability to work on a number of concurrent tasks with deadline pressures.
Ability to exercise discretion, tact, diplomacy and sound judgement.
Ability to establish and maintain constructive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
Ability to work independently and efficiently with limited supervision.
Demonstrated resourcefulness and adaptability.
Exhibits excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel) and sound skills utilizing both the intranet, internet, and social media including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and MySpace.
Ability to pass and maintain a criminal record check.
Ability to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends, as required.
Valid B.C. Driver’s Licence.
This regular, full-time position is included in the BCGEU bargaining unit. The hourly wage for the position is $38.14, Paygrade 8, plus an attractive fringe benefits package.
